Bank of America counts 1 million mobile bankers

Bank of America said it has topped the 1 million mark for its unique active mobile banking customers after one year of service.
The company introduced its mobile banking service nationwide in May 2007. The service allows customers to check balances, pay bills, transfer funds, view transactions and locate ATMs. The company said the most popular mobile service is viewing account balances, followed by reviewing transactions. Fewer than half of mobile banking customers use their mobile phone to transfer funds or pay bells.
Lance Drummond, e-commerce and ATM executive for Bank of America, said the company will sometimes see more than 100,000 mobile banking users each day during peak high usage days. The top 10 markets for Bank of America’s mobile service are Los Angeles, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Dallas, New York, Houston, Phoenix, Boston, Miami and Anaheim, Calif.
The company also noted that about two-thirds of its mobile banking customers are younger than 35.
