Adobe refreshes Flash Lite

Adobe Systems Inc. released a new version of its Flash software for mobile phones.
The company released Flash Lite 3, which is designed to allow wireless users to view Flash-enabled Web sites and video content on their phones. Both Japan’s NTT DoCoMo and Finland’s Nokia Corp. have committed to using the new technology in their devices starting early next year, Adobe said.
Flash is installed on roughly 98% of all personal computers and is used by developers to deliver rich video content. Flash Lite, a stripped-down version of its older sibling, is used by game publishers and other developers to deliver compelling graphics on mobile phones.
NTT DoCoMo became the first carrier to offer Flash Lite in 2003, and the technology has recently gained substantial momentum in other Eastern markets. Verizon Wireless earlier this year became the first U.S. operator to embrace Flash Lite.
Nokia is backing the technology with a new development community designed to help Flash developers and designers. Forum Nokia, a software development community that boasts 3.4 million members, is partnering with Adobe to integrate Flash Lite 3 into its platform.
