The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
- Wi-Fi
- United States: The city of Napa, Calif., has reached an agreement with AT&T Inc. calling for AT&T to deploy a Wi-Fi network covering a 12-square-mile area.
WiMAX - Chile: Alcatel-Lucent said it won a contract with Telmex to deploy a commercial WiMAX network in the country.
- Nigeria: Navini Networks supplied an 802.16e mobile WiMAX network to Hyperia for coverage in Port Harcourt.
Miscellaneous - China: Dongfeng Honda Engine Co. Ltd. said it is using Strix Systems Inc.‘s Access/One indoor and outdoor wireless systems for facility wireless access throughout eight plants in Guangzhou, China.
- Global: UTStarcom Inc. said it won a contract to provide its MovingMedia 2000 all-IP CDMA network solution to Maritime Communications Partner AS, a Norwegian global maritime cellular operator. The contract will enable CDMA voice and data services for MCP’s ferry and cruise ship customers.
- United States: The city of Dothan, Ala., has selected SouthernLINC Wireless as its official communications partner. SouthernLINC will provide devices and service for the city’s police, fire and utilities. Also in the United States, BlueTree Wireless Data Inc. said the city of Baltimore police department will use 250 of its BlueTree 5600 GPS EVDO modems in patrol cars to provide automatic vehicle location communication services.
