RIM licenses Kodiak’s push-to-talk

Kodiak Networks announced a global licensing agreement with Research In Motion Ltd. to include mobile applications-including push-to-talk functionality-on BlackBerry handsets. Kodiak’s applications already are available on the BlackBerry Pearl at Cingular Wireless L.L.C.
The agreement allows RIM to integrate a Java version of Kodiak’s handset client with BlackBerry handsets worldwide. The companies also plan joint development and marketing efforts.
The Kodiak client can display available contacts, convert a PTT call to a cellular call, and deliver voice messages to recipients without ringing their phone, among other features.
San Ramon, Calif.-based Kodiak has rolled up a list of handset and carrier partners in recent years for its portfolio of mobile applications, of which RIM is the latest.
