Video game veterans back Massively Mobile

BROOKLYN—Executives from two noted video game publishers are behind a new gaming company looking to exploit the connectivity of mobile phones.

Veterans from Activision Inc. and Gameloft launched Massively Mobile, a studio focused on building single-player and multiplayer titles “utilizing the unique advantages of the mobile platform.”

“For too long, the mobile platform has been treated as the red-headed stepchild of ‘real’ gaming,” said co-founder Demetri Detsaridis. “We consider mobile gaming not just an avenue to release miniature versions of console or PC games, but a viable part of a larger gaming ecosystem.”

While mobile gaming is generating substantial revenues around the world, analysts generally agree the space has failed to live up to expectations. Critics say major gaming publishers have yet to offer compelling games that take advantage of the advances of mobile devices and minimize the shortcomings of the platform.
