Air2Web garners $25M in VC funds

ATLANTA-Air2Web said it snared $25 million in a financing round led by The Carlyle Group.

The wireless software company said it will use the new funds to further its work in mobile marketing as well as expanding into other geographic markets. Existing investors Vantage Point, UPS and Jay Chaudhry also joined the round, and Carlyle’s Jay Koh will join Air2Web’s board under terms of the deal.

Air2Web has deftly moved beyond building wireless platforms for text, e-mail and instant messaging into building applications for corporations looking to leverage marketing opportunities on mobile phones. The company is involved in mobile campaigns such as wireless couponing and branding, and its clients include American Express, Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Citibank, The Weather Channel and UPS.
