Zingy, VH1 debut made-for-mobile videos

LAS VEGAS—The made-for-mobile content scene expanded by two today: content vendor Zingy Inc. and cable channel VH1 both announced plans to develop video content exclusively for wireless users. The announcements highlight both the tech advancements in wireless—most phones sold today can support video—and the increasingly lucrative content market.

First up, VH1 Mobile said its new, made-for-mobile series “Dingo Ate My Video” will launch April 24. The series features banter between two puppet characters “Dingo” and “Baby,” who will discuss several new music videos.

Separately, Zingy announced it hired talent agency ICM to be its sales agent for its new line of made-for-mobile content. The company’s Zingy Originals effort will produce “short form” video content aimed at young adults.

In other Zingy news, the company said it launched a beta version of its new Web storefront at Zingy.com. The site has been re-designed to upgrade usability features and subscription services, said the company. Zingy, a subsidiary of Japanese mobile content company For-Side.com, said the release is an early effort in its new direct-to-consumer approach.
