LOS ANGELES-Jamdat Mobile hopes to bring a little hell to your handset with a mobile version of Doom.
The game-maker launched the much-awaited Doom RPG, a role-playing wireless title based on Id Software’s revolutionary PC-based first-person-shooter. The game is available through most major U.S. carriers and is set during a “demonic invasion” at a Martian research facility.
The release coincides with the Hollywood feature film opening in U.S. theaters.
“The launch of Doom RPG is a milestone in mobile gaming,” said Mitch Lasky, chief executive officer of Jamdat. “The Id Software team created a game that delivers the same thrilling gameplay synonymous with Doom to mobile phones.”
Jamdat also announced the availability of SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Mobile Recon for Verizon Wireless customers. The real-time strategy game allows players to command a two-man Navy Seals unit through eight missions and is available for $4 a month or $7.50 for unlimited play.
