Nokia signs follow-on contract with Thailand’s AIS

ESPOO, Finland-Nokia Corp. said it signed a $15.5 million agreement with Thai wireless carrier AIS to expand its GSM network in the northern, western and southern region of Thailand. The expansion follows a $22 million deal earlier this year between the two companies.

Deliveries have already begun, and the expansion should be complete by year-end, said Nokia.

AIS President Yingluck Shinawatra said the expansion follows strong customer growth for AIS to an expected 16 million subscribers by year-end. “Our new subscriber forecast is revised by 35 percent from the beginning-of-year forecast, largely thanks to the success of AIS’ new prepaid package,” she said.<
