Siemens signs two GSM contracts

MUNICH, Germany-Siemens AG has announced two contracts, one in Russia and another in South Africa.

The German wireless supplier signed a $73 million GSM contract to expand the network of Russian carrier MegaFon.

The contract will cover the delivery and installation of GSM switches and base stations as well as intelligent networks for the carrier’s subsidiaries in Russia’s Volga and Ural regions.

Siemens also signed a framework agreement with South African carrier Vodacom to upgrade the carrier’s GSM and GPRS network nationwide with W-CDMA radio equipment and switches. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
