American Greetings plans wireless division

CLEVELAND-Greeting card giant American Greetings announced it will form a wireless division headed by Bryan Biniak, a former executive from Moviso.

“We plan to exponentially raise the bar in the wireless space by leveraging the massive distribution network, marketing prowess and existing customer base of this nearly 100-year-old company to provide new personal expression opportunities in a variety of categories for the mobile consumer,” Biniak said.

American Greetings has been selling various types of greeting cards for close to a century. The company’s Interactive subsidiary manages a variety of Internet greeting card efforts, and counts partnerships with MSN and America Online Inc. The company’s new wireless division, AGmobile, will work under the Interactive subsidiary.

American Greetings said it will offer a variety of wireless greetings through its existing partnerships with T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, Cingular Wireless, AT&T Wireless and others. The company said it will also offer BeatGreets, a greeting service featuring artists such as 50 Cent, Dave Matthews, Beyonce and Evanescence.
