Qualcomm supports LBS apps on BREW download service

SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. announced support for location-based applications through its BREW application download service. Using Qualcomm’s new QPoint technology, BREW carriers and application developers can add location information to their offerings.

“Qualcomm’s QPoint solution leverages proven technologies to provide a highly precise, flexible solution for wireless operators who want to take advantage of the next big trend in wireless-location-based applications and services,” said Gina Lombardi, senior vice president of marketing and product management for Qualcomm Internet Services. “QPoint provides options for wireless operators that help generate LBS revenues-from a hosted QPoint solution to customizable QPoint solutions available through channel partners worldwide.”

In other LBS news, location-services company Televigation said it will team with Creditel to offer a packaged, point-of-sale (POS) and global positioning system (GPS) tracking solution for businesses with remote workers. The product will combine Televigation’s TeleNavTrack tracking application with Creditel’s PowerSwipe credit card reading terminal.

“Creditel and Televigation are a perfect fit to deliver a combined GPS and portable POS solution-we both develop our products for a simple, fast and easy service at a great price,” said Michael Cottrell, vice president of market development for Creditel. “Creditel’s customers often request GPS tracking services, in partnering with Televigation, the leader in navigation and tracking, we deliver the most secure and affordable solution to meet market demand.”
