Wireless firms rack up venture capital

Several wireless software firms said this week they have garnered new funding.

DoOnGo technologies Inc., provider of over-the-air mobile device software management, announced it has closed $18 million in venture capital funding, which it plans to use for product development, business expansion in the United States, Europe and Asia, and to enhance its sales and marketing programs.

Advanced Recognition Technologies Inc. (ART), which makes voice and handwriting recognition software, said it has closed on more than $6 million in a round of financing. ART will put the funds toward worldwide sales and marketing initiatives.

Irish mobile-phone blogging developer NewBay said it received a $4 million investment from the European office of Benchmark Capital. The funding will enable NewBay to expand its current operations and develop new products and services based on its FoneBlog product.

Finally, Dwango North America Corp., developer and publisher of wireless applications, said it has closed a $1.7 million private placement of senior convertible notes and common stock purchase warrants. The company plans to use the funds for general corporate purposes, including working capital.
