ArrayComm demos seamless handoff via i-BURST

SAN JOSE, Calif.-ArrayComm Inc. demonstrated the seamless Internet session hand-off between two base stations using its i-BURST technology near its San Jose, Calif., headquarters.

During the demonstration, an ArrayComm team drove between the company headquarters and a base station about three miles away while using an i-BURST wireless modem attached to a laptop computer. Participants in the trial streamed a live Yahoo! video feed, transferred a large file using File Transfer Protocol and conducted several other Internet sessions at broadband speeds, the company said.

“The hand-off process is standards-based to ensure ease of integration with other network functions such as billing and quality of service management,” said Marc Goldburg, chief technology officer of ArrayComm.

“The latest demonstration proves that the i-BURST system provides true transparency of location in addition to its transparency to IP (Internet Protocol), regardless of the end-user’s IP device, application or location in the network.”
