MILPITAS, Calif.-Palm Inc. jumped into the growing field of Web services with partner BEA Systems Inc., a move that again helps to position the company against personal digital assistant rival Microsoft Corp.
Under the new deal, Palm and application infrastructure software company BEA plan to extend enterprise information from BEA’s WebLogic Server 7.0 and WebLogic Workshop products to Palm devices. The service will use Palm’s new Reliable Transport technology and will be based on XML programming technology.
The move is an answer to Microsoft’s growing .NET Web services push, which includes the software giant’s Pocket PC PDA operating system.
