Palm gets favorable judgement in E-Pass patent case

MILPITAS, Calif.-Palm Inc. said it was granted another favorable summary judgement in a patent infringement case, this time in a legal battle with E-Pass Technologies Inc.

Palm in a release said a U.S. District Court judge granted the company’s request for summary judgment in a suit E-Pass filed in February 2000, which alleged Palm infringed on its 1994 patent for electronic, multifunction cards.

Last month, Palm received a similar ruling against NCR Corp.

“We are gratified that still another baseless claim of patent infringement was thrown out,” said Eric Benhamou, Palm’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Palm’s policy is to fight meritless claims vigorously.”
