Alcatel expects operating loss this year, plans 10,000 more job cuts

PARIS-French telecom equipment vendor Alcatel said its will suffer an operating loss in 2002 and cut 10,000 more jobs by the end of next year as part of its plan to make the company profitable.

The gear maker, which had expected to make a profit this year, revised its position and doubled its restructuring plan to $1.19 billion from $594 billion.
