Handspring snags LG deal

SEOUL, Korea—Personal digital assistant (PDA) maker Handspring scored a major deal with GrandTech Korea and LG TeleCom to distribute Handspring PDAs working on LG’s wireless network to Korean customers.

Wireless service for Handspring’s Visor line of PDAs will work through a CDMA Springboard module for the devices, which will give users voice and data communications. Service is scheduled for later this year, and LG TeleCom will provide a variety of applications, including sales force automation, field force management and wireless stock trading services for specific corporate and vertical accounts. GrandTech, Handspring’s value-added distributor in Korea, will provide the DioPen Korean language overlay solution.

“The depth and expertise of the Korean developer community in microelectronics, combined with the aggressive and innovative approach of LG TeleCom, have created a great environment for Handspring products,” said William Holtzman, Handspring’s vice president of international business. “From the beginning we have believed that our products would be used for wireless data. It’s a great opportunity to find a partner with the same vision.”
