Agere Systems has licensed Airbiquity’s aqLink wireless communications software and integrated it into its family of hands-free, automotive telematics solutions, based on Agere’s 1629 digital signal processor. Alice Systems has launched Alice Connect, its second GPRS client software that enables mobile Internet over GPRS that Alice Systems said focuses on user friendliness and usefulness. “Customers of ours have asked for an easy-to-use client that will boost mobile Internet and run on a variety of wireless devices. Motorola Inc.

Motorola Inc. launched a version of its iSketch technology that can be downloaded onto a Palm Inc. personal digital assistant, the company said. iSketch technology allows users to create and transmit handwritten notes, sketches and signatures between mobile devices. “Sometimes a text message just doesn’t fit the need,” said Craig Peddie, general manager of Motorola’s Lexicus Division. Motorola also announced plans for the next generation of network processor blades that will include the C-Port C-5 network processor blade integrated into the PXP Series of Intelligent Packet Transport Platforms. Motorola said the new blades will offer an open, “multi-service” architecture that supports services and connections to various I/O sources on one resource board. The new blades also will increase delivery speed and performance for telecom applications. The company expects the C-5 network processors to be available on PXP platforms fourth quarter 2001. www.motorola.com.

Mobile Automation Inc.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted a patent to Mobile Automation Inc., a provider of wireless management solutions, for technology included in its MA 2000 product. The patent’s title explains the technology’s purpose: “Method for Distributing Software Over Network Links Via Electronic Mail.” MA said it may use the patented technology in some of its upcoming products, several of which have a strong e-mail transfer protocol. www.mobileauto.com.

One Voice Technologies

One Voice Technologies introduced MobileVoice Messaging, a new product that allows end users to send e-mail, SMS and paging messages, using natural language rather than keyboards. “In the U.S. it is not possible to send SMS messages between networks,” said Mike Isrig, vice president of marketing for One Voice, “but because the message runs through our server, it is being processed in a different way.” www.onevoicetech.com.

Nokia Corp.

Nokia Corp. has developed a PC-based family of third-generation network-planning tools for voice and data. The product, called Nokia NetAct, will use open interfaces and will offer reduced costs, increase productivity as well as optimize future investments, said the company. “This powerful solution is already in use by Nokia’s worldwide network planning organization and thus helps secure fast future 3G rollouts for Nokia’s customers,” said Jorma Hakkinen, vice president and general manager of operations systems at Nokia Networks. www.nokia.com.

Nexthaus, a developer of wireless technologies, is set to launch its new Java-based SyncML version of SyncSuite software. Socket Communications

Socket Communications Inc.’s Ethernet and Bluetooth CompactFlash plug-in cards for Pocket PCs have been selected for inclusion in Microsoft Corp.’s “Ultimate Wireless Kit,” a collection of wireless products Microsoft is offering in a sweepstakes to promote its Mobile Experience Tour. Socket’s Ethernet Card allows users to synchronize Pocket PCs with desktop companions from anywhere on an office network. The Socket Bluetooth Card, which will be launched in the third quarter 2001, offers a cordless connection between a Pocket PC and Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones for wireless e-mail, Web browsing and remote network access. Vindigo

Vindigo, which develops personal navigation applications for mobile devices, will begin shipping its flagship consumer application with all Palm m100 series and m500 series handhelds this summer. The Vindigo platform, which is currently available as a free download for Palm Powered handhelds, enables publishers including the New York Times Digital, Tribune Interactive, Cox Interactive Media, Washingtonpost Newsweek Interactive, and Zagat Survey to deliver location-based information to mobiles. www.vindigo.com.

WolfeTech Development

WolfeTech Development Corp., a developer of application and information services, announced a new version of its PocketGenie wireless application, and its newest wireless application, PI. PocketGenie 3.2 still offers more than 200 information services as well as several new features, including intuitive icons and a customizable “My Menu” function. Despite the added services, WolfeTech has actually implemented lower prices: $4.95 for 50 uses per month and $9.95 for unlimited usage per month. PI has a full HTML browser that allows users to submit forms and follow links while a message is loading. Xora, which provides wireless and voice-enabled data applications, announced a new platform it said will allow companies to quickly build mobile applications directly from their back-office systems. According to Xora, firms will be able to use internal back-office expertise to connect Xora’s patent-pending pre-built solutions to any type of mobile devices, within weeks. Primal Technologies Inc.

Primal Technologies Inc., a provider of intelligent network applications, announced the addition of three new wireless IP data capabilities to its IN voice applications on the PSN450 (Primal Service Node). Text-to-Phone allows users to send voice messages to contacts listed in a desktop address book. Conferencing allows users to connect with up to 32 people at once, in real time, via a PDA device. Agilent Technologies Inc.

Agilent Technologies Inc.’s new modulation analysis measurement personality option for its ESA-E series spectrum analyzers will allow wireless R&D engineers to design mobile handsets and base stations to perform vector measurements for second- and third-generation cellular communications standards. The option will measure EVM and related metrics with eye and constellation displays and will offer general-purpose spectrum analysis along with numerical and visual tools to help engineers identify impairments to digitally modulated signals for major cellular standards. The Agilent ESA-E series spectrum analyzers start at $11,950 and the new modulation analysis measurement personality is $3,500. A new enhanced power suite includes all ESA family spectrum analyzers and current ESA owners can receive it as a free firmware upgrade. www.agilent.com.

Auvo Technologies Inc.

Auvo Technologies Inc., a provider of multimodal wireless software, developed a platform that will allow simultaneous integration of voice, text and graphics over packet data networks. The technology does not require a voice channel interface; rather, it sends data over the Internet to a host server or directly to other users. According to Auvo, the platform can be applied to any 2.5 or 3G packet-based wireless network. In August, Vodafone’s AirTel Mobil S.S. will join Auvo in Madrid to conduct a live commercial network trial of the platform in order to asses the technology as well as usage patterns. www.auvo.com.

Hirschmann Electronics

Hirschmann Electronics Inc. has launched a new series of hard-wired hands-free mobile phone systems that it hopes will complement recent mandates for hands-free mobile phone usage while driving. Features of the Hirschmann Dialog + product series include radio mute, private mode and a timer controlled switch-off, all of which allow drivers to keep their hands on the wheel while talking. In addition, Hirschmann offers several dual-band antennas that enhance hands-free mobile conversations: on-glass, interior on-glass, bumper-mount and portable magnetic-mount configurations. Conexant Systems Inc. announced its new wideband CDMA power amplifier. The CX77115 W-CDMA power amplifier uses Conexant’s System Smart platform, which, according to the company, increases operating efficiencies currently at low and medium power operation. TERK Technologies

TERK Technologies announced the expansion of its cellular car antennas with four new offerings: the CFR-903, the CFR-904, the CFR-905 and the CFR-906. The new antennas, which all feature dual-band frequencies, are designed to maximize performance of fixed-installation hands-free kits. “Complete with four new diverse styles, these additions to our cellular antenna line are designed to meet strong consumer demand for more functional and aesthetic options,” explained TERK Chief Executive Officer Neil Terk. Analog Devices Inc.

Analog Devices Inc. has added four new high-performance radio-frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) to its existing portfolio. The AD8345 is a 1 GHz quadrature modulator designed for use as an IF modulator in cellular IS-95, IS-136, GSM and third-generation base station equipment. The AD8347 is a conversion quadrature demodulator that operates from 800 MHz to 2.7 GHz enabling simple, small, low-cost receivers, and allowing direct-conversion radio implementation within point-to-point and point-to-multipoint broadband access equipment. The AD8367 is a wideband variable gain amplifier to integrate an on-chip square law detector. DMC Stratex Networks

DMC Stratex Networks unveiled its 100BaseT Ethernet Interface Unit (EIU) for high-speed wireless transport of data into the metropolitan area network (MAN). The new EIU connects DMC Stratex Networks’ XP4 wireless product family to Fast Ethernet equipment, including switches and routers that transport data information. “The XP4 EIU meets our customers’ requirements because it is the only product of its kind delivering affordable, high-speed wireless data transport in a carrier-grade solution at many frequencies,” said Sam Smookler, president and chief executive officer of DMC Stratex Networks. SPANworks Inc.

SPANworks Inc. released an Early-Access Program for its SPANworks II Wireless SDK. The SDK, developed in partnership with Socket Communications Inc., enables instant ad-hoc networking for Windows and Windows CE. The software toolkit enables developers to write interactive applications that work with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless adapters and Ethernet adapters. COM DEV

COM DEV introduced M/ERGY, a mobile, broadband wireless data system that uses Qualcomm’s 1xEV-DO technology to deliver Internet access to laptops or desktops. M/ERGY is a packet-based system that will incorporate voice over IP capability and enable full mobility, COM DEV said. Base Stations will use digital radio technologies and although they will initially operate in the 1.9 GHz licensed spectrum. In the future, COM DEV will also be able to deploy the system using other baseband technologies and customize to operate in both licensed and unlicensed spectrum in the 400 MHz and 6.0 GHz bands, depending on customer requirements. Decibel Products said it will add its MaxFill technology to the Diversity Master family of antennas. This technology provides exceptional pattern shaping, particularly in the area of upper-side lobe suppression and null filling, making it possible for customers to get enhanced close coverage while maintaining low interference levels with the Diversity Master products, said the company. Decibel introduced two new models with MaxFill capabilities. Model 855DD90T3ESX provides a 90-degree azimuth beamwidth and model 854DF65T5ESX provides a 68-degree azimuth beamwidth antenna.
