Vodafone offers short code dialing for roamers

LONDON-Vodafone Group plc customers on seven of the company’s networks in Europe now can use their normal “short code” dialing numbers to access services such as voicemail, directory assistance and customer service when traveling outside their home country.

“Allowing customers to use their existing short code access numbers, even when traveling, shows how being part of the Vodafone family can make using a mobile phone easier,” said Thomas Geitner, chief executive group products and services designate for Vodafone. “Together with Vodafone Eurocall, we expect this new service to increase roaming usage and to drive revenue growth, particularly in the business market.”

The current networks include Germany’s D2 Vodafone, the Netherlands Libertel Vodafone, Portugal’s Telecel Vodafone, Romania’s Connex GSM, Spain’s Airtel, Sweden’s Europolitan Vodafone and Vodafone’s U.K. network. Vodafone said it plans to rollout the service to the rest of its networks worldwide in the future.
