TIW customer base increases 97 percent

MONTREAL-TIW added 878,300 net subscriber during the fourth quarter to reach a total of more than 4.4 million cellular subscribers, an increase of 97 percent from 1999.

ClearWave N.V., a central and eastern European subsidiary of TIW added 314,400 subscribers in the fourth quarter, ending 2000 with 1.47 million subscribers. TIW’s operations in Brazil added 558,700, ending 2000 with 2.9 million subscribers. Dolphin Telecom ended 2000 with 51,500 digital subscribers after adding 21,000 in the fourth quarter. The company said total subscribers, excluding paging services, rose 85 percent to almost 4.7 million at the end of 2000 compared with 2.5 million for 1999.

Consolidated revenues for the fourth quarter increased to $238.6 million and net loss was $102.8million, or $1.40 per share, compared with revenues of $170 million and a loss of $69.9 million, or 97 cents per share, in 1999. For the year, consolidated revenues were $805.9 million with a loss of $358.3 million, or 92 cents per share. In 1999, revenue was $595.4 million and net loss was $175.6 million, or $2.46 per share.
