France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom anticipate change

France Telecom said it will sell its 2-percent stake in Deutsche Telekom next year, according to a Reuters report. France Telecom also said it expects changes in the shareholder structure of Global One, France Telecom’s joint venture with Deutsche Telekom and Sprint Corp.

Meanwhile, at a September press conference in New York, Deutsche Telekom said it considers its 10-percent stake in Sprint too small a toehold in the U.S. market. The German company has a US$1.9 billion investment in Sprint’s landline and wireless business. However, the company sees its role as one of controller rather than financial stakeholder, according to Jeffrey A. Hedberg, board of management member in charge of international operations.
