ALIANT TO BUY HALF OF OMAHA CELLULAR

LINCOLN, Neb.-Aliant Communications said it entered a definitive agreement to acquire 3607 Communications Co.’s 50-percent interest in Omaha Cellular G.P.

Following the close of the acquisition, which is expected during the first quarter, Aliant will own 100 percent of Omaha Cellular and about 56 percent of the operating partnership that provides cellular service in Douglas and Sarpy counties in Nebraska, and Pottawattamie County in Iowa. The transaction is subject to Federal Communications Commission approval.

The acquisition will increase Aliant’s proportionately owned pops by 177,071 to 354,143 and subscribers by 20,856 to 41,712, said the company.
