COMSAT, HYUNDAI FORM PARTNERSHIP

HERNDON, Va.-Hyundai Electronics Industries Co. Ltd. and Comsat RSI Plexsys Wireless Systems formed a purchase agreement and product development alliance.

Terms of the agreement call for Hyundai to purchase nearly $5 million of Plexsys’ PlexCell series of Code Division Multiple Access switches, which Hyundai will use with its small-scale base station controller and base station transceiver subsystem, the company noted.

The arrangement allows Hyundai entry into international markets with networks that require smaller switches.

Plexsys said the order is its largest CDMA order to date. The company currently manufactures cellular systems using Advanced Mobile Phone Service analog technology, and it will begin offering Time Division Multiple Access systems early next year.

The companies commented that the purchase arrangement is beneficial to both, giving Hyundai access to international markets and allowing Plexsys to migrate its lines more quickly from analog to digital and to accommodate both TDMA and CDMA technologies.
