HOUSTON-Corsair Communications Inc. began deploying its PhonePrint cellular fraud prevention system in the Houston metropolitan area for Houston Cellular Telephone Co.
The PhonePrint system uses radio-frequency fingerprinting to detect and disconnect calls made from cloned phones. Mike Hanafin, vice president of engineering and operations for Houston Cellular, said PhonePrint’s success in other markets was a major reason the company selected the system.
“Both of our partners-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. and BellSouth Cellular Corp.-have deployed this system with excellent results,” Hanafin said. “While we don’t have the fraud problem that many other markets have, we definitely want to give our subscribers the best protection available.”
