TAMPA-GTE Telecommunications Services Inc. signed a contract to provide its Access Services clearinghouse system to PrimeCo Personal Communications L.P.
GTE also will provide its RoamerXchange database management system to PrimeCo, which operates a Code Division Multiple Access personal communications services network.
The Access Services system determines the cost of each customer’s roaming call and forwards the correct billing information to each wireless operator. GTE compared the process to the way credit-card companies act as billing clearinghouses for banks and other entities issuing credit cards.
The Access Services system supports CDMA and Advanced Mobile Phone Service transmission standards. Another version of the product supports Global System for Mobile communications networks.
