PACIFIC BELL INTROS PCS IN BAY AREA

SAN FRANCISCO-Pacific Bell Mobile Services launched its personal communications services network in the San Francisco Bay area.

The network uses Global System for Mobile communications technology. Each phone includes a GSM smart chip, which stores a subscriber’s PCS telephone number, calling plan and speed dialing lists.

In a promotion of the launch, Pac Bell is offering two calling plans to subscribers who activate service by July 7. The starter plan, priced at $20 per month, includes 200 minutes of local airtime and 10 minutes of free airtime to be used at any time. Additional airtime is 40 cents per minute. The Charter Member plan is $50 per month and includes 300 free minutes of airtime with additional airtime priced at 20 cents per minute.
