BETHESDA, Md.-Personal communications services provider Omnipoint Communications Inc. said it has a total of nearly 16,000 subscriber activations, most of which occurred after the company introduced an advertising campaign Feb. 14.
“Based on our current run rate and the traditional seasonality of subscriber growth, we believe that we are on track to achieve an annualized one percent penetration rate of our covered pops,” said George Schmitt, president of Omnipoint Communications. “Historically, 40 percent to 45 percent of the annual subscriber growth in cellular occurs in the fourth quarter and less than 20 percent in the first quarter.”
Schmitt added that customers also are using the service more than the company expected. Omnipoint customers averaged 160 revenue-producing minutes per month with average revenue per subscriber at more than $70 per month, excluding roaming revenue and taxes.
