GLENAYRE TESTING TWO-WAY SYSTEM

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-Glenayre Technologies Inc.’s Wireless Messaging Group said it began testing its two-way data paging system with PageMart Wireless Inc.

PageMart recently selected Glenayre to build its second ReFLEX25 narrowband personal communications services network in Austin, Texas. PageMart said it plans to deploy a nationwide two-way network by overlaying its existing one-way FLEX network.

The Austin network will be used to test the paging control technology and infrastructure equipment supplied by Glenayre.

The system includes Glenayre’s GL-C2010 transmitter controller, which offers paging carriers Internet Protocol-based linking options such as frame relay and two-way very small aperture terminal for both one-way and two-way paging, the company said.

“We view this test system as a great opportunity to demonstrate to PageMart our ReFLEX25 products and new IP-based control system,” said John Linton, senior vice president of marketing and product management for the Glenayre’s Wireless Messaging Group. “As data communications networks become more available and far less expensive, IP-based linking will likely emerge as the standard for connecting central controllers to base stations.”
