BELLCORE TO OFFER NETPILOT SYSTEM

MORRISTOWN, N.J.-Bellcore said cellular carriers that are buying their own signaling transfer points will be interested in Bellcore’s new NetPilot system.

The NetPilot is a scalable, client-server system that automates signalling configuration management across switch and equipment types, which Bellcore said is a necessary technical achievement if local number portability is to be implemented in the United States.

“The new NetPilot system can benefit both large, incumbent carriers that are highly automated, and new competitive carriers using manual processes,” said Dr. Zach Gilstein, product line manager and chief system engineer for Bellcore’s Element Management Systems division.

Bellcore said it designed the NetPilot system as a buy-to-use rather than the buy-to-build type offerings on the market today. “This provides customers with a ready-to-use system that does not require additional programming, yet still can be tuned to fit unique network configurations and customer needs,” said Gilstein.
