CEDAR KNOLLS, N.J.-Subscribers of Omnipoint Communications Inc.’s personal communications services network now can send and receive e-mail messages directly from their handsets.
Messages with as many as 160 characters can be supported by the system, which uses Global System for Mobile communications technology.
George Schmitt, president of Omnipoint Communications said the service complements the carrier’s other GSM-based services such as on-demand stock quotes, New York Times headlines and daily weather forecasts.
