AIRNET BAGS $40M AMERICALL CONTRACT

MELBOURNE, Fla.-AirNet Communications Corp. said it signed a purchase agreement to supply personal communications services infrastructure equipment and services to Americall International L.L.C. of Phoenix, Ariz.

AirNet values the agreement at $40 million. The company said it will supply and install Global System for Mobile communications base stations, featuring its high capacity, software-defined broadband transceiver systems.

Americall successfully bid in the Federal Communications Commission’s C-block and F-block PCS auctions. The company plans to provide service in 14 basic trading areas in five states. Americall said AirNet will be its sole provider of network infrastructure equipment.

“Our choice of AirNet as base station system supplier was made after a very thorough selection process,” said Thomas M. Roskos Jr., president of Americall. “Its combination of lowest cost, greatest coverage, rapid deployment and ease of future upgrading were key criteria in our decision.”
