ERICSSON’S GSM SET FOR PORTUGAL

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson will supply Global System for Mobile communications infrastructure to Telecel Comunicacoes Pessoais S.A. between 1997 and 1999 to expand its network in Portugal. Ericsson values the contract at $98 million. The agreement includes switching, radio base stations and services, Ericsson said.

“The new purchase agreement with Ericsson, which is both very progressive and innovative, will enable Telecel to continue to provide the highest quality creative mobile telecommunication services to customers in Portugal,” said Antonio Carrapatoso, president of Telecel. Telecel, a private GSM operator in Portugal, is owned by Grupo Esprito Santo, Grupo Amorim and AirTouch International Inc.
