PCSI UNVEILS CHIPS FOR PHS AND PACT

SAN DIEGO-Pacific Communication Sciences Inc. announced its second-generation personal handyphone system and personal Air Communications Technology chipsets.

The five-chip PHS set includes a highly integrated baseband controller, a synthesizer with on-chip VCO, intermediate frequency transceiver, radio frequency transceiver and a highly integrated front-end device that includes a power amplifier, low noise amplifier and Rx/Tx switch.

PCSI said the pACT chipset will allow manufacturers of pACT subscriber devices to produce small, low-cost personal communications devices with long battery life. The three-component chipset consists of a control processor integrated circuit, a modem IC and a radio IC. The company said it also provides a radio reference design, the pACT control stack and a software development platform designed to shorten time to market for original equipment manufacturers.
