MOTOROLA WINS PROJECT FOR THAILAND EXPANSION

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s International Cellular Infrastructure Division will expand and upgrade cellular phone service in Thailand under a contract valued at $160 million.

Total Access Communications Public Co. Ltd. ordered the expansion to increase overall network capacity and extend geographic coverage in the capital of Bangkok and surrounding areas. Motorola will upgrade many of the existing analog cell sites to a digitally enhanced narrowband Advanced Mobile Phone Service platform with linear power amplifiers.

“The continued expansion of this cellular network in Thailand demonstrates the long-standing relationship and commitment we have to providing Total Access Communications with up-to-date, highly efficient infrastructure equipment,” said Pertti Johansson, corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola’s ICID. “TAC has been adding subscribers at a rapid pace and this expanded use of NAMPS technology will serve as a tremendous boost in increasing the overall network capacity.”

The expansion project will allow subscriber capacity to reach 400,000 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
