AT&T PROVIDES INTERFACE FOR CDPD, CDMA USERS

MORRISTOWN, N.J.-AT&T Network Systems Inc. said it is able to interface its Cellular Digital Packet Data and Code Division Multiple Access systems using a common interface.

The company said it can transmit data between its Autoplex 1000 CDPD system and its CDMA-based products using a TCP/IP data interface. At PCS ’95 last month, AT&T demonstrated the CDPD/CDMA compatibility by sending CDPD-based applications from a host computer to both a CDPD and a CDMA laptop computer.

“This functionality between CDPD and CDMA is good news for service providers, because it enables them to move to future technologies while protecting their initial investment,” the company said.

With CDPD, AT&T added, subscribers can obtain wireless access to their existing e-mail, databases and data entry applications, achieving connectivity wherever there is cellular coverage.
