NORTEL UNVEILS SOFTWARE TO REDUCE WATERFALL NOISE

DALLAS-Northern Telecom is introducing new switch-based software to eliminate the waterfall sound sometimes heard in Time Division Multiple Access cellular technology.

Nortel’s Background Noise Conditioning feature will be available by the third quarter. The company said it more accurately reproduces the background noise present during a TDMA cellular call. Presently, digital speech codes in many cellular networks have difficulty encoding background noise, producing the sound of falling water.
