Pricing changes slow following smartphone buzz

A week after Verizon Wireless tried to under cut the iPhone buzz at Cingular by slashing prices on a handful of smartphones, Cingular bounced back with a variety of pricing changes last week.
The most significant change was a $100 price drop for prepaid users looking at the Motorola Inc.’s Razr handset. Cingular cut the price of the device in half to $100 after rebates. The carrier also dropped $50 on the Samsung Electronics Col Ltd. D807 slider phone.
Late last week Cingular also unveiled the UMTS/HSDPA version of the Razr, dubbed the V3xx. The handset retails for $80 after rebates and brings the number of next-generation handsets available from the carrier to 9.
Verizon Wireless made only one change on an entry-level model, while T-Mobile USA Inc. dropped the price on two models and raised the price on its ultra-thin Samsung Trace handset.
