Maltese network operator GO has signed to use Software AG’s Cumulocity IoT platform for its enterprise customers. It is a minor win for the Germany-based firm, in a country with only around 500,000 inhabitants, but it is a win nonetheless, and GO joins the likes of Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica, KPN, A1, NTT and Telstra among operator customers taking Cumulocity IoT as a white-label service.
Cumulocity IoT, acquired by Software AG in 2017, is a key part of the firm’s data management and integration play in the emerging IoT sector, set to explode the market for data storage, management, and analytics services. It was conceived originally as an IoT platform for the telco set, to be able to offer enterprise customers a way to manage their IoT data and devices. Around 25 operators are using the platform.
Software AG calls it a “multi-tenant and open platform… supporting multiple types of [IoT] connectivity and protocols”. GO provides mobile, television, and broadband packages; its GO Business division serves the enterprise market in the country, and is the division offering the Cumulocity IoT platform. The deal with Software AG covers “platform, connectivity, and devices”.
It has also added Software AG’s webMethods integration solution, offering more than 300 connectors for cloud-to-cloud integration of third-party platforms. The operator is focused on offering support for asset tracking services, as a first IoT use case. GO claims to have 500,000-odd customers – in a country of only 500,000-odd people.
