Advances in digital platforms can provide regional telecom operators with the tools needed to compete and survive in the competitive marketplace

Competition in the telecommunications space continues to grow thanks to technology advances that have allowed almost any company to enter the space in one form or another.
While large, established telecom operators have the depth of networks and finances to compete and thrive, many smaller players are being forced into uncomfortable operating positions in order to prevent business losses, let alone maintain operations.
On this week’s Carrier Wrap we speak with Michelle Mindala-Freeman, VP of strategy and solutions for HTEC at Capgemini Consulting to look at some of the ways regional and rural telecom operators can compete in the increasingly competitive market.
Mindala-Freeman noted smaller, regional providers can respond to increasing pressures by turning to digital disruptions as a competitive advantage. Such a move does require a top-down buy in from executives in order to support such a program as well as a well-defined roadmap designed to maintain focus in the efforts.
The efforts also require operators to closely evaluate which emerging technologies and corresponding digital services align most with an operator’s capabilities and targeted market, and be able to make difficult decisions in terms of employee training or requirements to support those efforts.
Thanks for watching this week’s show and make sure to check us out again next week when we speak with Derek Kerton from the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley and The Kerton Group to look at 5G use cases.
