On this episode of HetNet Happenings, RCR Wireless News Managing Editor Sean Kinney takes you inside the recent IEEE Globecom showcase held in San Diego, Calif.
In the first segment, Kinney is joined by Ed Tiedemann, IEEE Globecom general chairman and a Qualcomm SVP, to get a high-level overview of the event, an annual showcase for the standards setting body.
Tiedemann discusses the dissemination of technical information associated with IEEE with particular emphasis on the standards setting work around an ultimate 5G definition. He said that 5G has moved from the research phase to the standardization phase.
Tiedemann also discusses the theme of IEEE Globecom: connecting all through communications, which extends connectivity beyond individuals into the physical world as connected objects add to the complexity of the Internet of Things both consumer and industrial.
Kinney also takes a look at the bustling IEEE show floor where the latest in mobile network solutions were showcased.
In one clip, Qualcomm demonstrates LAA and LTE/Wi-Fi aggregation, followed by a National Instruments demonstration of a MIMO prototyping platform.
