Smartphone car service starts up

SK Telecom, the largest wireless network carrier in South Korea, last week introduced what it claims is the world’s first commercial “mobile telematics” service in China.

The so-called E-MIV service, which was first reported by the South China Morning Post last year, enables customers to use their internet-linked smartphones to remotely secure, track and manage their cars.

SK Telecom’s Chinese subsidiary, Shenzhen E-eye High Tech Co, expects to have about 10,000 users during the first year of E-MIV operations in the world’s largest car market.
