Wireless History Foundation to accept nominations for 2012 inductees

Austin-based Wireless History Foundation said it will begin accepting nominations for the 2012 Wireless Hall of Fame through March 15. Nominations will be accepted in four categories: service provider; technology; industry associate; and “pioneer,” with nominees needing to have at least two “seconders” to be considered. Nominations forms can be found at the WHF website: www.wirelesshistoryfoundation.org/whf-hall-fame/wireless-hall-fame-dinner.

Inductees, who will be selected by a committee that the WHF said is composed mostly of HOF members, will be honored during a dinner on Oct. 8 in San Diego, Calif., the evening before the fall CTIA event. The WHF has inducted 32 individuals since its founding in 2000, including Marty Cooper, Jim Dwyer, Dale Hatfield and Irwin Jacobs. Last year’s inductees included Clayton Niles, former chairman of Communications Industries and leader in early cellular regulation; Robert Marino, former president of cellular companies in the United States and Argentina and chairman of Syniverse; Arnold Pohs, former chairman and CEO of CommNet Cellular; and Nick Kauser, former CTO of Rogers Cantel, McCaw Cellular Communications, AT&T Wireless Services and Clearwire.
