IDA collaborates with Intel on Wi-Fi program

SINGAPORE-The telecom regulator in Singapore announced a collaboration with chip maker Intel Corp. on a Wi-Fi initiative that the Infocomm Development Authority said would help achieve “seamless connectivity in the wireless world for Singapore and Asia.”

The total investment by the two groups is $2.25 million.

IDA said the program, called IDA-Intel Wireless Hotspots & Network Interworking Initiative, will bring together operators and vendors across the Asia-Pacific region and will provide the basis for a new revenue source for the sector.

The groups said the collaboration will bridge the different wireless local area networks, wireless wide area networks and fixed wide area networks to provide seamless connectivity. The program comprises an interworking study, interoperability lab test and a technology exchange program.
