Compal, Chunghwa picture tubes set up joint venture in China

Taipei, Feb. 18, 2011 (CENS)–Compal Electronics Inc., one of the world`s top two notebook PC makers, and Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd. (CPT), a display panel supplier, have together announced a US$3 million investment in setting up a joint venture in China.

Some US$570,000 of the investment will come from Compal`s reinvested touch panel subsidiary, and the remainder from CPT and its affiliates.

To be located in CPT`s existing manufacturing base in Fuzhou, southeastern China, the joint venture will be engaged in production and sales of processed glass for use in touch panels, with production schedule and output planning still in discussion.

Gary Lu, spokesperson of Compal, indicated that the joint venture is part of the firm`s effort to reinforce vertical integration of its PC manufacturing business, which will help the firm raise production efficiency to stay competitive in the line.
