Test and measurement company Ixia has released an e-book on heterogeneous network deployment, compiling strategies and lessons learned from its work over the past couple of years with vendors and operators who have deployed small cells.
“It’s kinda of a collection of our input of what we’ve learned working with analysts, working with the operators — why heterogeneous networks, why small cells, what are the trends, the when, and what are the challenges,” said Joseph Zeto, senior director of product marketing for Ixia.
The guide outlines what hetnets consists of and many of the challenges, lays out the drivers for deployment and the types of small cells that can be deployed, and suggests test case approaches for validating small cell networks.
“The business case is strong,” said David Chambers, wireless industry analyst and founder of ThinkSmallCell, in the foreword. “HetNets enhance the customer experience, improve retention, slash cost, and unlock new revenues —but adopting this new model is rife with challenge. Orchestrating a seamless service using multiple equipment vendors, introducing new features, software upgrades and configuration parameters all involve some risk.”
