Test & Measurement: Working on OpenFlow in China

Spirent Communication‘s equipment was used to support China’s first public OpenFlow interoperability test event in China at the Global SDN Certified Testing Center (SDNCTC), a subsidiary of the Beijing Internet Institute.

More than 10 software-defined networking vendors participated in the event; Spirent’s TestCenter was used to emulate OpenFlow controllers and connect to multiple OpenFlow switches, and to verify secure channel connections between various network elements. The demonstration is being presented as part of an SDN showcase during the Global Open Networking and SDN Conference being held in Beijing this week.

–Global Voice Group, headquartered in South Africa, announced the launch of a new platform for testing quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) of mobile telephone services, with regulatory requirements particularly in mind. QoS Tracker is a web-based platform that does automated testing and measuring of QoS and QoE for mobile subscribers across a given territory. The company compared the approach to crowdsourcing, and it does require subscribers to download an application that runs the automated tests on their phones.

“Unlike current solutions which only rely on stereotyped tests, the QoS Tracker can also collect, process and consolidate Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data based on automated tests carried out in real situations, as they are experienced by the subscribers,” GVG said.

Agilent Technologies has launched a new signal analyzer with faster RF signal generation and analysis, which can be used with its test equipment for small cells, the company said.

The M9391A, a 1-MHz to 3- or 6-GHz PXIe vector signal analyzer, offers up to 160 MHz bandwidth for testing the latest wireless standards. It is designed to be used in combination with Agilent’s X-series equipment, and is complementary to Agilent’s M9381A PXIe VSG for testing and design validation of wireless power amplifiers, transceivers and cellular base stations, primarily picocell and femtocell.

Exfo Inc. touted the launch of the industry’s only integrated 400G testing solution, designed for operators who have their eye on developing 400G networks to meet the need for speed for triple-play services, data centers and higher-bandwidth residential broadband services.

EXFO’s new IQS-610P-HS-400G test solution offers the ability to configure up to four 100 Gbit/s interfaces simultaneously and simulate real-life services in order to monitor QoS metrics to validate implementations.

“In a highly competitive market, NEMs are striving to deliver high-speed transmission solutions that meet carriers’ need for speed and optical reach while improving compensation for optical impairments,” said Claudio Mazzuca, VP of EXFO’s Transport and Service Assurance Division.  He added that ” 400G development and early trials can be complex and cumbersome to perform without the proper test solution.”
