AT&T Mobility reports half-million postpaid net adds for Q2

AT&T provided a preview of how the current second quarter is progressing, reporting that its wireless operations were on track to post 500,000 postpaid net additions for the quarter. That growth is being driven by higher gross additions and smartphone upgrade rates on track with what the carrier reported during the first quarter of this year.

That postpaid growth is a significant increase over the 320,000 postpaid net additions reported for the second quarter of 2012. AT&T earlier this year reported 296,000 postpaid net customer additions for the first quarter driven by tablet sales and that it sold a first-quarter record 6 million smartphones that accounted for 81% of postpaid device sales.

In line with its first quarter results, AT&T said it expects second quarter wireless earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization to remain near 28%, though that it expects consolidated margins to be down year-over-year due to strong customer growth and investments in “new growth opportunities.” The carrier maintained its full-year guidance for 2% revenue growth.

AT&T is set to release full second-quarter results on July 23.
