MWC 2012: Operators get aggressive with small cell deployment

In the United States, operators are turning to small cells to boost network capacity and revenue opportunities. Small cells are no longer seen as alternatives to DAS or to Wi-Fi; instead operators are starting to see all these technologies as key parts of heterogeneous networks.

In emerging markets, some carriers are building new networks completely with small cells, bypassing macro cells and towers altogether. At Mobile World Congress, RCR’s Dan Meyer caught up with Khuramm Sheikh of Powerwave Technologies (an RCR sponsor), to learn more about how small cells play into LTE deployments.
