Mocapay and eNational Payments formed a strategic partnership that calls for eNational Payments merchants and retailers to be able to use Mocapay’s secure mobile payments solution and mobile marketing engine to reach customers in real time. eNational Payments provides financial services, including check warranty and back office conversion. Mocapay’s platform allows merchants to create mobile marketing campaigns that can provide back information such as demographics, redemption rates and purchasing behavior.

Argentinean mobile carrier Movistar launched a mass-market mobile service for Windows Live Messenger based on Synchronica‘s Java-based client. The service allows subscribers to experience fully functioning Windows Live Messenger on their mobile phone by downloading Synchronica’s client from the Movistar Web site. Synchronica also announced an undisclosed Latin American operator has begun offering its MessagePhone handset. The MessagePhone is a messaging-oriented device designed to be used with Synchronica’s Mobile Gateway. The handset provides push e-mail, synchronization and mobile instant messaging services.
Mobile commerce solutions provider Firethorn Holdings L.L.C., which is a subsidiary of Qualcomm Inc., announced a collaboration with Discover Financial Services for Firethorn’s forthcoming SWAGG mobile gift card application. The exclusive agreement calls for Discover Network to provide core processing services for payment transactions when the SWAGG service is used at merchants throughout the United States.
Analog Devices and Altera Corp. have teamed up to launch a development platform for wireless equipment designers to evaluate systems using digital pre-distortion techniques in multi-carrier cellular base stations. The platform includes a high-performance RF and mixed-signal transit chain from ADI that can be seamlessly integrated with any field-programmable gate array development kit with a high-speed mezzanine card connector from Altera.

Lockard & White, a telecom engineering and integration firm, teamed up with Full Spectrum Inc., a fourth-generation SDR manufacturer, to launch the Smart Grid Wireless Connectivity Center at Lockard & White’s headquarters in Texas. The center will include an indoor lab as well as an outdoor smart grid test environment. The center is designed to accelerate nationwide smart grid deployments for advanced mission critical distribution automation and metering applications by providing utilities and wireless manufacturers with an environment in which to evaluate their systems in near-real-world scenarios.
